The annual Birmingham Press Club Golf Day takes place at Blackwell Golf Club, near Bromsgrove, on Monday, September 8.
Club members and their guests will be helping to support the Primrose Hospice and Cancer Help Centre which is marking its 21st anniversary in 2008.
The hospice, in St Godwalds Road, Bromsgrove, is an independent charity offering advice and support to cancer patients and their families in north Worcestershire and south-west Birmingham. The day hospice is open four days a week to patients.
Golf day organiser and press club director Tony Flanagan said: “Many of us have good reason to be aware of the evils of cancer in all its forms. The Primrose Hospice gives fantastic support to both patients and the carers in their families who need help during very difficult times.
“I am delighted that the oldest press club in the world has chosen to throw its weight behind the Primrose Hospice and I hope we can raise a significant sum to help them towards their annual fundraising target.
“We already have a pledge of £1,000 from a local company and Barclays Bank plc has promised to double any amount raised by their staff up to £1,500, so we are already well on our way to a very substantial total.”
Hospice chief executive Alvin Robinson said: “This is tremendous news and we are delighted that Birmingham Press Club has chosen the Primrose Hospice to benefit from fund raising at its annual golf day at such as prestigious venue as Blackwell Golf Club which is not far from St Godwalds Road.
“In the current year we have to raise over £1.3million to meet our operational costs, of which 11 per cent is provided by our Primary Care Trust.
“It is only through the fantastic efforts of our team of fundraisers and the generosity of organisations such as the Birmingham Press Club that we can keep going and have the confidence to plan for the future.”
