18th century Scottish church with great views and plans for luxury home at auction

A former church with “one of the best views” across a rural valley in northern Scotland is appearing at Bond Wolfe Auctions’ next live-streamed auction on Wednesday 19 May.

The historic Kirkton of Alvah Church, in the village of Alvah, near Banff, in Aberdeenshire, is going under the hammer with a guide price* of £49,000+.

The church was built in 1792 but closed in 1970 by the Church of Scotland and has since received planning permission for conversion into a four or five bedroomed house and has been cleared internally in preparation of its full development.

Ron Darlington, consultant director of Bond Wolfe Auctions, said: “This is a rare chance to make a lovely home out of an historic former church in the beautiful countryside.

“The building is surrounded by farmland in the small village of Alvah some three miles from Banff with Aberdeen some 44 miles to the south.

“Any buyer who wants a place to get away from it all will definitely find solace after creating the luxury home that this old church deserves.”

The freehold property’s planning permission for converting the church premises into residential was granted by Aberdeenshire Council in 2016 under Application No. APP/2016/0988.

This allows for a four or five bedroom property over three floors extending to approximately 2,994 sq ft.

The former Scottish church is just one of 236 lots listed for Bond Wolfe Auctions’ online auction which starts at 8.30am on Wednesday 19 May.

The auction will be livestreamed via Bond Wolfe Auctions’ website with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet only, and bidders must pre-register no later than 12 noon on Tuesday 18 May.

This follows Bond Wolfe Auctions’ last auction on 31 March which raised over £30.2 million in sales, a new record for the UK’s most successful livestreamed auction.
