Crowe advises on Black Country manufacturing reshoring project
A Black Country business has set about reshoring a major part of its production process, with assistance from national audit, tax, advisory and risk firm Crowe.
For many years, TWP Manufacturing in Tipton has had turned parts manufactured in Singapore, but following a significant six figure investment advised by Crowe, it has purchased and installed six CNC machines to undertake the work in-house.
The project has already been such a success the directors are ordering a seventh CNC machine for the new year and so far three new jobs have been created.
Established in 1995, TWP Manufacturing provides pressings, mouldings and assemblies as a sub-contract manufacturer to a diverse range of UK industry; from automotive, construction, electrical and white goods through to high profile leisure and retail brands.
Johnathan Dudley, National Head of Manufacturing at Crowe, said: “TWP had reached a point where it wanted to take back control of costs and bring the margin back in-house in order to maintain its competitive edge.”
TWP has so far installed three Dugard Eagle CNC machines, a Mori Seiki SH25, an Econo CNC 25 and a Bridgeport 760 vertical machining centre.
Crowe has been a long term partner with TWP Manufacturing and has advised directors Phil Stanley and Richard Perry on a wide range of issues.
Johnathan Dudley, who is also Managing Partner of Crowe’s Midlands office said: “The decision to bring back the manufacturing of a large range of turned parts from Singapore is part of a wide ranging review of all sub-contracted work that TWP puts out to other manufacturers.
“At Crowe, we are very hands-on with our advice and have been working alongside Phil Stanley and Richard Perry for many years, as we have with many of our manufacturing clients in the wider West Midlands and nationally.”
TWP Manufacturing director Phil Stanley said that they had recognised the need to take more control of processes, batch numbers and lead times and the best solution was to bring many of the processes in-house, hence the most recent investments made in machinery, training and people.
He said: “We are constantly seeking to be more proactive in our relationships with our customers and to that end we need to be constantly innovating and looking at what we can do better, quicker and more competitively in a market that is fast changing all the time.”
Finance director Richard Perry said: “Control of costs and protection and improvement in our margins is at the heart of the current review and is an ongoing process that will drive our competitiveness in all the markets we serve.
“Johnathan Dudley and the team at Crowe provide invaluable back up, always on hand to support and advise on our development plans.”
TWP Manufacturing is at the hub of a range of brands that the company manufactures including Bullbarrow Products, Spyrabase, Paterson Photographic and Benbo.
The Midlands office of Crowe runs the highly successful Manufacturing Business Network which next meets at Black Country House, Round Green Road, Oldbury, on Wednesday 6 November.
Ninder Johal will lead a discussion the launch of 5G services and the implications for business. Johal was recently appointed a non-executive director of West Midlands 5G Ltd, a new organisation set up to deliver the UK’s first region-wide 5G testbed.
