Former Birmingham church with excellent development potential at next Bond Wolfe auction

A large former church in Birmingham with excellent development potential is coming up for sale in Bond Wolfe’s next auction on Wednesday 14 December.

The former Sparkhill Methodist Church at 40-46 Warwick Road in Sparkhill will feature in the livestreamed auction along with a self-contained flat at 22 Madeley Road, with a guide price* of £495,000+.

The relatively modern church building was designed by architects Bromilow, While and Smeeton and was constructed in 1959, serving as a place of worship and community centre for more than 60 years until it closed this summer.

Ian Tudor, joint managing director auctions at Bond Wolfe, said: “This highly prominent freehold former church building together with a self-contained flat is considered suitable for a wide variety of alternative uses, subject to planning permission.

“The main accommodation currently has a main entrance reception, a lounge and meeting room, a main church area, a function hall, various offices and meeting rooms, a kitchen, cellar and plant room, and toilets.

“A self-contained duplex flat at the rear of the property known as Flat 22, Madeley Road has a ground floor entrance lobby, a landing, a lounge and kitchen on the first floor and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor.

“The property extends to approximately 11,132 sq ft and fronts the main A41 Warwick Road, a short distance from the main junction with the A34 Stratford Road, with a return frontage to Medlicott Road and a road frontage to Madeley Road at the rear.”

Sparkhill is a busy and well-established suburb, situated between Hall Green and Sparkbrook, approximately three-and-a half miles south east of Birmingham city centre and five miles north west of Solihull town centre.

Mr Tudor added: “This dominating position fronting one of Birmingham’s busiest A-roads and within a densely populated suburb gives the property excellent development potential, subject to planning.”

The former church is among scores of properties due to appear in Bond Wolfe’s next auction which is due to start at 9am on Wednesday 14 December.

The auction will be livestreamed via Bond Wolfe’s website with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet.
