Lighting Reality and Prolectric keeping Britain’s trains on track
A specialist lighting firm is helping engineers to keep Britain’s train tracks safe, using the latest software from UK-based Lighting Reality.
Prolectric is a Somerset-based specialist manufacturer and expert provider of solar lighting for a variety of infrastructure and construction clients.
One of these is Network Rail, whose contractors work on testing, maintaining and repairing thousands of miles of train track across the UK.
Prolectric has been using Lighting Reality PRO software on its Network Rail jobs for the last 18 months, and has recently won the contract to provide temporary lighting for wherever works are taking place over the next few years.
Tim Brooks, commercial director at Prolectric, said: “We use the Lighting Reality PRO software to ensure we provide the correct lighting solutions that meet the required standards for every job.
“Sometimes that might be a certain length of track, or a car park or even a tunnel, and these locations change every weekend, so we are constantly using the software to design bespoke lighting for every job.
“This means that whenever Network Rail’s contractor are on site, they can be assured that they have at least the minimum standard of lighting, keeping themselves and ultimately railway staff and passengers safe both during and after works.
“By using the Lighting Reality PRO software, we are able to carry out site surveys and produce diagrams of the areas being worked on, then design the correct amount of lighting to use to keep everyone safe.
“With an average of seven or eight jobs every weekend for the next few years, we will be hiring literally thousands of our products to help Network Rail keep Britain’s train tracks safe, and Lighting Reality is assisting our ability to do this.”
As well as Network Rail, Prolectric also uses Lighting Reality PRO software for construction engineering clients such as Balfour Beatty, Skanska and Costain.
Mr Brooks added: “Prolectric’s lighting products are already tried, tested and proven, economic in use, and simple to install and operate.
Worcestershire-based developer Lighting Reality provides software that allows designers to create lighting projects for all manner of exterior environments, in a fraction of the time that it takes other competing lighting design software.
Rachel Green, marketing coordinator for Lighting Reality, said: “With the fantastic lighting solutions provided by Prolectric’s specialist products, Network Rail is literally keeping Britain moving, and doing so in the safest and most efficient way.
“It’s a great example of a challenging project that has been assisted by Lighting Reality software, and we’re proud to be playing our part.
“It really shows the application’s ability to be applied in a wide range of outdoor environments.”
The Lighting Realty PRO software supports all major international standards, and is constantly evolved as these standards are upgraded.
First launched in 2001, Lighting Reality PRO is also now used by around 97.5% of British councils, and the company estimates that around 90% of exterior lighting engineers in the UK own a copy.
