Local businesses share why their town or city is great on Nicol & Co’s new social media videos
An inventive social media video series launched by Worcestershire estate agency Nicol & Co is showcasing local firms sharing why their locations are great places to live, work and do business.
Matt Nicol, the managing director of Nicol & Co, explained that the company’s new “Why?” project is working with business owners across Droitwich, Malvern and Worcester.
The first video interviews Daley Fard, owner of houseplant retailer The Jungle Club, which recently expanded into new premises on Pump Street in Worcester city centre from the Barbourne area of the city.
Mr Nicol said: “We’re really excited to kick off a new series which celebrates how proud local independent businesses are of our towns and city here in Worcestershire.
“We were lucky to start the series with Daley from The Jungle Club, a specialist houseplant shop on Pump Street, who is so enthusiastic about the experience he creates for his customers, and of what makes Worcester such a special place.”
The four-minute video broadcast on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and X shows Daley talking about how his business inspiration came from “my love of plants” and doing something “I was passionate about”.
He says: “We’re an indoor house plant specialist shop, anything from small potted 5cm cacti to 2.3m banana trees, and to be able to do something you enjoy every day is brilliant.
“Just being able to work for myself, work with my brother, it’s a family run business, and as long as we can keep paying the bills and be happy, that’s the success.
“One of the great things is that we’ve met so many amazing businesses in this city, seeing how so many independent businesses shape this city.
“We dedicate ourselves to our business, and there’s not many people doing what we’re doing in the West Midlands, where we’re the number one plant shop that’s family owned.
“We make sure that what we bring to the shop is our energy, trying to do things our way, and that’s something that’s quite unique.
“When people come in, whether it’s the music, the vibe, that’s what we try to give people, a good experience when they’re buying plants, and they feel comfortable to be here.”
He added: “My favourite aspect about doing business in Worcester has got to be the people, my customers, the community we’ve made around this shop.
“People who are into plants, people who’ve never been into plants before, buying their first plant, buying their 100th plant.
“We’re here, we live here, but when you look at Worcester, the amount of camaraderie between independent businesses, from what we do to hospitality, to real estate, anything … to be a part of that is really good.”
