PTP to help disabled fitness products company to recruit two new apprentices

An expanding West Midlands company that specialises in wheelchair products is working with Performance Through People (PTP) to recruit two new apprentices.

Invictus Active, based in Four Ashes, Wolverhampton, was set up by Scott Smith and Paul Cooksey, who are both full time wheelchair users following spinal cord injuries.

Mr Cooksey, a former managing director of an engineering company, launched the company with co-founder Mr Smith, a successful entrepreneur.

Together they developed the Invictus Active Trainer, a lightweight, portable fitness machine, similar to a treadmill, specifically for wheelchair users.

Invictus Active supplies this and many other disability products across the world, as well as providing online wheelchair fitness sessions – with the aim of enabling anyone to be as fit and active as possible.

The company has now received grants from the Staffordshire Means Back to Business campaign to recruit a lean manufacturing apprentice and another to work in business sales and administration.

Mr Smith, co-founder of Invictus Active, said: “My dad, Paul Smith, works at PTP as a manager and so we were already aware of their reputation in recruiting and training quality apprentices.

“As part of our expansion, we have been awarded apprenticeship grants and so we approached PTP to discuss how they would go about assisting us to find the right people.

“We were impressed with their plans and are now happy to be working with them on this recruitment, and soon hope to have our new apprentices working with us.”

Gill Durkin, business executive with PTP, which is part of the BCTG Group, said: “We are delighted to be working with Invictus Active, which has a growing reputation for assisting wheelchair users with their unique product range.

“They are a fascinating company and we are confident that we will be able to help them find the people they now need to take the business forward.”
