An expanding coffee specialist is quadrupling the size of its roastery at a new space in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, in a deal arranged by commercial property specialist Siddall Jones.

Quarter Horse Coffee Roasters has taken a 3,942 sq ft space in a light industrial unit at 10 Kenyon Street, just a short walk from St Paul’s Square.

The company was founded by married couple Ameeta Retzer and Nathan Amos Retzer in Oxford in 2012, and their original shop quickly gained a reputation for being one of the best in the country.

The Retzers then opened their first café-roastery in Birmingham, Ameeta’s hometown, in 2015 on Bristol Street near the city centre.

Quarter House will retain its Bristol Street café but will move and expand its roastery and launch a pop-up café in Kenyon Street premises, adding an extra member of staff to take its workforce to six.

Mr Retzer said: “We are really excited to move into the Jewellery Quarter and create a unique, first of its kind coffee roastery.

“The new space at 10 Kenyon Street is massive compared to the corner of our café that we have been roasting in.

“It increases our production space by over four times and will allow us to have a new training space for courses and wholesale customers, as well as a small espresso bar.

“Growing this side of the business help us support our partners and provide a one of a kind coffee space in Birmingham, as well as taking on a new member of staff.”

Mr Retzer added: “We are the first independent, specialty coffee roaster in Birmingham and have worked hard on sourcing and roasting great coffee, prioritising meaningful relationships with farmers and with our local customers.”

Siddall Jones arranged the deal on a 15-year lease off a quoting rental of £12 per square foot on behalf of a private client who had recently acquired the freehold of the property.
