The latest technology drives ‘business as usual’ from home for Nicol & Co
A Midlands estate agent is fully focused on “business as usual” after ensuring all its staff were quickly set up to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nicol & Co, which has offices in Droitwich Spa and Worcester, has shown its resilience by using the latest technology to keep operations running smoothly during the current self-distancing restrictions.
The company requested its staff to work from home more than a week ago but to continue holding team meetings in the usual time slots by utilising live Zoom online video software and answering calls to the office via mobile apps.
Meanwhile, property valuations have carried on using Nicol & Co’s remote video technology resulting in new instructions, with sales and transactions also still taking place.
Matt Nicol, managing director of Nicol & Co, said: “I’m so proud of the way all our staff have instantly adapted to this huge challenge.
“The latest technology means we have always been able to work from home when needed, and so the whole company found it easy to accommodate the necessary restrictions imposed for health and safety reasons by COVID-19.
“Our digital phone system was a huge investment originally, but it’s now paying dividends as each team member has company calls coming through an app on their mobile which doesn’t use up their credit or display their personal number.
“Even when I had to self-isolate from Wednesday when my son had a temperature, working remotely simply made me busier than ever, with time to think and implement new ideas. My son is fine now, by the way!”
This week, Matt has taken part in a national property webinar hosted by Rightmove as an industry expert leading from the front, sharing his knowledge and experience of using the latest technology with other property professionals.
He added: “Our ‘business as usual’ approach to operations, together with our high-profile marketing has resulted in lots of supportive communications from staff, peers and customers which has helped to maintain high morale here at Nicol & Co.
“More importantly, continuing operations means we’re still taking on new business as well as completing transactions for current customers, and this is kind of good news that people should be reading and hearing about during this crisis.
“Yes, of course COVID-19 will have an effect on the property sector, but the latest technology means we can work just as hard from home for both new and existing customers.
“This will ensure we will keep things in good shape whilst some aspects of what we do are on pause so that we’re ready for the positive rebound once things return to normal.”
